Collaboration & flexibility
The brief from the school was to create versatile spaces which encourage creativity and provide contemporary learning spaces for the Arts. Understanding the background, the vision and pedagogical focus of the school helped inform the design and planning of the centre.
The physical environment is designed to encourage collaboration. The building encompasses flexible and interactive learning spaces, creating a flowing connection between learning studios. The heart of the project was to provide a flexible tiered learning space and music studio. A large operable wall allows for flexibility to accommodate smaller student groups or full performances. The large glazed door opens to the drama court for outdoor performance. The main foyer access provides further flexible learning space and an exhibition gallery.
Steep sloped site
The facility has been designed over two storeys to address the slope of the site. The steep slope was utilised to maximise access, link level changes and create a series of terraced courtyards and an outdoor open theatre.
The new building provides a visual and physical link between the upper and lower levels of the school site.
