Simplicity of form
Both externally and internally, the design features the use of simple materials with low environmental impact, balanced with longevity and ease of maintenance. The design adopts a simple building form for ease of construction, to minimise material wastage, and to be adaptable to future changes. Learning studios are arranged along the building spine to allow access to the flexible learning area from all rooms. Flexible learning spaces open directly onto the existing courtyard, providing a connection to existing campus facilities
Internal and external connections
The Home Economic facilities have been centralised for ease of use by both junior and senior classes. Direct access from the Food Technology Studio to the dining area and existing veggie garden has been provided. An operable wall between Food and Fabric Technology Studios provides flexibility within these spaces. Visual connections within the learning areas promotes resource sharing and helps to create networks across the learning communities. Smaller and acoustically separated spaces for meetings, small group discussion, and student withdrawal have been provided.
