Location & program
Adventist Alpine Village (AAV) is a peaceful, all-seasons retreat set on 125 acres of pristine Snowy Mountains bushland near Lake Jindabyne and the Thredbo and Perisher ski fields. Designed for families, groups, schools, and conferences, it offers a safe and nature-focused environment with diverse accommodations—from chalets and lodges to dormitories, glamping tents, and campsites—hosting up to 204 guests.
Constraints
A key driver of the design was environmental sensitivity. The site’s biodiversity values have been carefully considered, with all designs developed in a modular format—manufactured off-site and installed with minimal disturbance to the natural surroundings.
Proposal
KDA was tasked with designing a series of modular cabins, carefully planned to serve a dual purpose: as bunk-style accommodation for student camping groups during peak seasons, and as glamping-style retreats for couples and small families at other times.
The proposal comprises:
150 camp sites including visitor parking
3 amenity blocks, each containing male and female toilets and showers, a communal laundry, and a DDA-compliant bathroom
10 modular cabins, each including a small kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area, and outdoor deck (with one designed as fully DDA compliant)
A recreation centre for gatherings, featuring a small kitchen, storage, and presentation space, strategically located adjacent to the BBQ area and children’s play space, providing a central hub easily accessible to all guests.
