MOUNT PLEASANT ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Mount Pleasant Road Primary School Masterplan was undertaken by KDA in 2013 and Stage 1 new facilities opened in September 2015. In August 2023 KDA were engaged to review the original Masterplan and implement Stage 2 works. Through staff, student and parent forums, the school community determined that the new school buildings were to be contemporary internal and external learning spaces which facilitated 21st Century pedagogy and built on an existing strong sense of community

The courtyard provides a central focus for the school, linking all permanent and relocatable buildings. It is an inclusive and flexible outdoor space that connects learning spaces with administration and specialty areas and provides for a multitude of community gatherings. The buildings work alongside the courtyard to separate the campus into various zones: passive play, active play, sport, specialist learning and community gathering. Convenient access to outdoor spaces is provided from all learning areas.

Learning communities
The junior and senior learning precincts contain areas for direct instruction, collaboration, inquiry and retreat. This allows for differing styles of learning and teaching. Creativity and investigation can occur with ease of access to storage and wet area facilities. Large areas of glazing provide a strong visual link to the courtyard from the shared learning spaces. Discussion spaces are located throughout the learning environment to accommodate small group and individual work. Meeting rooms are provided adjacent to staff areas to provide discrete, acoustically isolated spaces for private meetings.
Flexible specialty spaces
The establishment of a Creativity Hub (including student kitchen, Art, Music & Science/ Technology) with flexible spaces extends the opportunities for student learning and community gathering. Sliding doors have been positioned to allow the Music/ Science/ Informal Learning spaces to be utilised as one large area. The stand alone nature of the Creativity Hub, with kitchen and toilet facilities, provide the school with a space for after school events and activities.
