A whole campus approach
The Heritage College Masterplan was commissioned in 2007 to establish a brand new K-12 campus for Heritage College on a twenty acre rural site in Officer. The Masterplan considered a complex of range of issues unique to this project, and responded with a clear direction for proceeding in multiple staged construction projects.
Projects undertaken:
Stage 1: Library, Senior Learning
Stage 2 & 3: Arts & Technology Centre
Stage 4: Early Learning Centre
Stage 5: Science Centre
Stage 6A, B & C: Primary Learning
Stage 7A & B: Multi-purpose hall & Senior Learning
Staged growth
In establishing a new campus, it was acknowledged that the built form of the campus would develop over time, staged to suit the growth of the study body. Key parameters were established in the Masterplan to guide future projects and allow for a consistency in projects across the campus.
Creating multi-use spaces that are flexible and adaptable;
Arranging buildings around ‘Learning Courtyards’, that are linked by a ‘Learning Street’, enabling facilities to be shared by different age groups;
Outside areas adjacent to buildings act as an extension of the learning environment.
A focus on Environmentally Sustainable Design, the relationship between indoor and outdoor space and the importance of landscape;
Site layout and orientation to provide shelter from winds and promote natural lighting;
Utilising water sensitive urban design, including the incorporation of the existing dam into the project as a wetland.
