VERMONT SECONDARY COLLEGE GYMNASIUM
Vermont Secondary College has an outstanding academic program across all disciplines, particularly Science and Maths. While the academic program has been flourishing, the physical education facilities and large gathering spaces were not meeting the schools needs. This project resolves these issues and allows the school to more fully support its students.

Continuous improvement
Vermont Secondary College is focused upon extending the needs of gifted and talented students, and improving upon their teaching-learning culture with an evidenced led methodology. The teaching cohort is highly motivated and well supported within a whole of school culture that implements a model of ‘always improving’ regardless of starting point.
Responding to needs
The school has in the recent past, with the current and consistent leadership team, been adapting and developing the existing building stock to meet their needs. The LTCs and 1990’s school buildings present significant physical limitations in this endeavour. The existing gymnasium was the most salient case in point. The school did not have an indoor space that could accommodate the 1600 plus student population. The existing single court gymnasium did not meet current court standards and was not fit for purpose. The new dual court gymnasium has allowed the school to deliver their sports and PE curriculum and also provides the large indoor gathering space they were lacking. The inclusion of retractable seating has provided a multi function space for both large assemblies as well as sports court viewing.
